Crowdfunding
Crowdfunding, it's a way for people, businesses, and charities to raise money for a project or cause. Many different crowdfunding platforms exist. At Origin, we use GoFundMe Charity, a platform designed specifically for charities and non-profits to raise money.
Campaigns like the one seen in the picture are how you can raise money for your program. You create a title, set a goal, and use the page to explain what you're raising money for and how people can help. If you're active on social media, you've probably seen how successful fundraisers like this can be. Check out our sample campaign to get an idea of how this all shapes up: https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/originsample.
We want everyone to attend our trips, so we want to do everything in our power to make them easier to afford. With that in mind, we've created this page to make this as streamlined as possible for you. You fill out the forms below, send us a picture or video, and we produce the campaign for you! We'll send you a link like the one above that you can then post on your social media pages and share with your network.
Keep in mind this is just a sample. We recommend that you put a lot of time and effort into your campaign so that people know how much this experience means to you. It always helps to go the extra mile, consider having a friend or family member help you write your story, or even make a short film. Don't worry too much about grammar and formatting. We'll do the proofreading and editing for you to make sure your campaign is polished before you post it!
Step 1: Photo / Video
The first thing we need is a photo or a video for your page. Email it to info@originexpeditions.org with “[Your name] Crowdfunding Photo” as the subject.
Tips for your photo or video:
Use a photo of yourself! Face the camera, or at the very minimum, make sure people can see your face. Avoid using sunglasses or anything else that covers your face. Remember to smile!
Ensure the shot is high-quality and well-lit (you don’t want the primary light source behind you). Modern smartphones usually work just fine; consider using portrait mode.
If you’re making a film, consider using a microphone, so the sound quality is better. If you add music, make sure you have permission to use it.
Step 2: Determine Your Fundraising Goal
Next, you need to determine how much money you would like to raise for your trip. We recommend setting your goal to at least the cost of your course. Double-check the packing list for your trip to make sure you have everything you need for your trip. If you don’t, consider searching for it online to determine the cost and adding that amount to your goal.
Step 3: Tell Your Story
The final step involves telling your story. Taking the time to put energy and passion into this portion determines how successful your fundraiser will be. We encourage you to seek feedback from a friend or family member for this portion. Remember, the more you write, the better!
Note: We highly recommend writing content for these forms in a word processor with an auto-save feature such as Google Docs or Grammarly just in case your web browser closes.
