Outdoor education and research in the Great Lakes Region.

Fostering care for the natural world begins with building a connection to it.

At Origin Expeditions, we seek to increase natural resource conservation and personal health in communities surrounding the Great Lakes by helping people connect with the environment.

Discovering nature and its resources through wilderness immersion.

Have you ever wanted to learn to paddle a canoe down a river, plan a multi-day backpacking trip or navigate off-trail? Origin Expeditions offers various wilderness programs in Michigan for those looking to discover what the wilderness has to offer in the Great Lakes Region. Our outdoor education programs aim to show individuals what our natural resources provide and what’s at stake amidst overconsumption and climate change. Additionally, we use data collected on our multi-day expeditions to research wilderness immersion and its impact on people.

The whole trip was amazing, I really loved all of the times we had to bond with each other and with nature. I learned a lot about the people who went on the trip with me, and also how to preserve the natural world. I had no idea that microplastics were so prevalent and the importance that came with not leaving any behind. The trip really motivated me to have a healthier lifestyle, and all in all, I learned a lot about nature and myself."
